The Helford River

Designated as an 'area of outstanding natural beauty', Helford has much to offer the visitor. It is also particularly attractive outside the high summer season. Nearby gardens of Bosahan, Glendurgan and Trebah are a delight from March to June with early flowering shrubs, together with numerous other in West Cornwall open to visitors. Cornwall's coastal footpath, very popular with walkers, goes through Helford to join the ferry from Helford Point to the north side of the river if your footsteps take you that way. For the energetic, there are two new excellent hard tennis courts at Manaccan and golf may be played at Mullion, Praa Sands and Helston Ball Park all within thirty minutes drive.

Swimming pools are available at Helston and Falmouth or the sea in mid summer for the brave. Sea fishing is offered off boats out of Coverack and Cadgwith, or from the rocks in the river and elsewhere on the Lizard Peninsula . There is also fishing at Argal and Stithians resevoirs. Helford is especially known for the delightful sailing it offers, with boats for hire from the village (in July and August) and at St Anthony - two miles away, throughout the summer. Or do bring your own dinghy to explore the hidden creeks,and sandy bays on the river and use the excellent facilities of Helford River Sailing Club, just a short walk from all the Helford cottages.

There are plenty of opportunites for enjoying very good food in the many picturesque inns and resturants - a list of suggestions is provided in each cottage.
